Welcome to Jeremy Allen Garden Design
A professionally designed garden is more than an attractive outdoor space. It should complement the architecture of your home, respond to the surrounding landscape and provide enjoyment throughout the year. Professional design also helps avoid costly mistakes, ensures the garden functions well and creates a clear framework that will mature beautifully over time.
Jeremy Allen Garden Design is based near Colchester and undertakes projects throughout Essex, Suffolk, East Anglia and across the UK.
We work on a wide variety of private residential projects, from village and town gardens to substantial country gardens, listed properties, contemporary homes and rural estates. We are equally happy designing complete new gardens, restoring established landscapes or redesigning existing gardens.
No. Although many of our commissions involve larger country gardens, we also enjoy working on smaller gardens where thoughtful design can make a significant difference.
Yes. Our work ranges from contemporary to classical, but every garden is designed to suit its setting, the architecture of the house and the way our clients wish to use the space.
We offer a flexible garden design service that can include initial consultation, concept design, site appraisal, master planning, detailed construction drawings, planting design, tendering, contractor liaison and aftercare. Clients may commission a complete design package or individual services.
The initial consultation is an opportunity to discuss your aspirations, priorities, budget, timescale and how you would like to use your garden. It also allows us to understand the character of your property and establish a clear design brief.
Most projects require an accurate survey before detailed design begins. Smaller gardens can often be measured by us, while larger or more complex sites usually require a professional topographical survey.
Yes. Where appropriate, we can prepare three-dimensional visualisations to help you understand the proposed design before construction begins.
Yes. Planting design is an integral part of our work. We prepare detailed planting plans that consider year-round interest, site conditions, biodiversity, maintenance requirements and the relationship between planting, architecture and the wider landscape.
Yes. We can source high-quality plants through specialist trade nurseries, providing significant savings compared with retail prices. We also set out the plants on site ready for planting.
Yes. We can obtain quotations from carefully selected contractors and provide the drawings and specifications needed to ensure accurate pricing and high-quality construction.
Where required, we can undertake regular site visits during construction to review progress, answer technical queries and help ensure the design is implemented as intended.
Yes. Many projects involve improving or restoring an established garden rather than starting from scratch. We can work with existing mature trees, planting and landscape features wherever appropriate.
Planting is central to every garden we design. Strong structure provides the framework, while carefully considered planting adds beauty, seasonal interest, biodiversity and atmosphere. Our extensive horticultural knowledge ensures plants are selected to suit both the site and the long-term character of the garden.
Jeremy combines professional garden design training with more than thirty years of practical gardening experience. Having created and maintained three substantial gardens of his own, he understands not only how gardens should look but also how they develop, mature and are maintained over many years. Every design is rooted in strong structure, excellent horticulture and a clear sense of place.
Every project is different and timescales depend on the size and complexity of the garden. This will be discussed at the outset and an agreed programme established before design work begins.
The first step is to contact us to arrange an initial consultation. We will discuss your project, answer any questions you may have and explain how the design process can be tailored to your requirements.
Every project is unique, so our fees are based on the size, complexity and scope of the commission. Following an initial consultation we will provide a clear, tailored fee proposal outlining the services recommended for your project.
